VETERANS MEMORIAL RAILROAD “BACK ON TRACK”
Special announcement: Even though the Veterans Memorial Railroad tracks are stretched out over mostly the perimeter of the 20-acre Veterans Memorial Park, we do need to be mindful of the health concerns that the nation is facing at this moment. Our railroad terminal and museum are closed and the Free Public Run Days have been put on hold as well. We gather nice-sized crowds during these events and social distancing is not easily controlled in those instances. The Christmas Polar Bear Express will not take place in 2020 both for safety reasons and a reduced amount of available manpower for the extensive set up of the many Winter themes we have traditionally had on display around the track. We are looking forward to 2021 and returning to our normal schedules for Free Public Run Days and Holiday Special events.
Here’s a great idea!
We have had requests from families to be able to bring out their grandkids for private rides. Some of our volunteers have stated that they are willing to work those special events. The VMRR is kept running strictly by the donations of our visitors and being closed we are not receiving any of the donations that help us prepare for the Christmas Polar Express. We are accepting family groups of 20 or less for a 1-lap ride on one of our trains for a donation of $50. If this sounds like something that you would like to do with your family please call Gloria Keenan at 850-643-6646. The picnic table and playground are also available to give the family some outdoor time!
Veterans Memorial Park offers amenities for families: a nice playground, a large covered picnic pavilion, one mile of a paved walking trail, all of which can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
For reservations of the train or additional information, please call 850-643-6646.
DONATIONS APPRECIATED. VMRR is a Not for Profit 501c3 tax-exempt organization.
